2020 is the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, one of the deadliest events in 20th-century Irish history. On the morning of Sunday 21 November 1920, Michael Collins’ gunmen killed fourteen suspected British intelligence officers and fatally injured one, by late afternoon fourteen civilians lay dead or dying, including three children, having been shot by Crown forces at a Gaelic football match in Croke Park. The day of bloodshed ended with the killings in Dublin Castle of Conor Clune and Dublin brigade IRA officers Dick McKee and Peadar Clancy. Compellingly readable and illustrated with photographs of the time, the five chapters in this book tell the story of the day - the attacks and killings by the Squad in the morning; Croke Park in the afternoon; what the newspapers said about the day ;the life and commemoration of Finglas’ Dick McKee; and the reprisals and raids on the southside of the city in the days after Bloody Sunday.
