As part of Local Government Reform the Electoral Areas changed; to three Municipal District Areas of Bailieborough-Cootehill, Cavan-Belturbet and Ballyjamesduff, all town councils were abolished. Elected representatives were reduced from 52 (including Town and County Councillors) to 18 representatives.
